can only really take it as is.
Imagine if he told people his name, I don't think he'd be hired by a
game development team again.

Still, lack of name or proof, you have to remain very skeptical.

see, i really, really hate this.
why can't people cite their sources?

Maybe give some proof when you give such a profound statement?

Are you upset that the troll didn't cite sources, or that Cyber didn't?

Both, actually.
But the so called "troll" really has more of a legitimate reason not to.
What sources would he publish, that probably wouldn't be illegal?
Non-disclosure agreements and such.

I just posted a link to the article, I never said to believe it or not to.
That's your choice.

Cybermesh has every right to come here and say it's BS, but
without proof to back it up, it could be as much BS as the article!

Imagine if I turned in a paper stating an authors facts were
wrong in one of his books, without any proof to back it up.
I'd get a big fat F.

I'm not saying cyber's wrong, and he's more likely to be right.
But I want proof.

I've read it and read one of Gaile's respones:
Quote
This is an entirely bogus piece, with so much misinformation and so many lies it would take me a week to refute them all. Suffice to say, this was absolutely and positively not written by a former ArenaNet employee, and virtually every assertion he makes is provably false. I think the only fact might be that "ArenaNet made a game called Guild Wars." ;) This is the second time that someone has posted an alleged "former employee blog," and both are equally ridiculous. (Oh, by the way, "Freedom of Speech" is not relevant here, for neither ArenaNet nor NCsoft is a government agency and it is the government that is constrained by the U.S. Bill of Rights. But it is a common misconception, and I bring it up only because the mis-citation is a personal hoodoo of mine, so you can ignore that comment. What you should not ignore, however, is the absolute fact that the blog is absolutely inaccurate and utterly without value. --Gaile  05:42, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Interestingly enough, as some GWO members pointed out, that blog is full of gold buying ads. What's also worrysome is that the former ANet emplyee says that he doesn't think gold buying is a problem.

Now you might ask if thats even the same person, but then again, we don't even know who that person is do we?

So now my suspicion is, if that person's blog is advertising gold sellers and since he/she says gold selling isn't bad, could it be a gold selling publicity stunt done by an actual gold seller?

Anyways, I don't believe it. Personally, the poster doesn't strike me as a whistle blowing but more of an attention seeker.

I agree.

one thing I find funny, is that Gaile says everything is provably wrong, but doesnt then offer the proof, just more statement.

She should do...

A. what he said...
then
B. proof its wrong.

Still, the whole thing is just funny to me.

I agree. Just sounds like someone seeking attention or disgruntled when it comes to A-net.

Attention seeking, yes.
Disgruntled, no, imho.

He kind of talks the company up, and says "working" for them was
a great experience. Doesn't sound like a disgruntled employee to me.
If that's what he was he would have surely accused them of far worse
than sketchy business. Something like "They're nothing but a bunch of
suits that don't care about the customers and force us to work long hours
etc etc etc. "

No, to me it's most likely someone trying to cause scandal and conspiracy,
whether they worked for anet or not.

After a decade-plus of reading stuff on the net, I've become quite good at spotting truth, tricks and trolls.

When ex-employees write about their former company, there are invariably many tell-tale signs sprinkled thru the post.   After reading that blog, it is abundantly obvious to me that the blog is NOT written by a former employee, since this blog includes none of the tell-tale signs whatsoever.  Instead, the tell-tale signs that do exist point squarely at this being written by an upset player.

A likely scenario is that this was written by a bot-farmer who was caught and banned, and they are now trying to run a smear-campaign against ANet.  As Gaile points out, those kind of lies are not protected by free speech, and the writer could possibly be sued for defamation, libel and slander.

If I'm correct in assuming that you believe that the "former anet employee" is a gold seller, I do believe you have an interesting theory. However, gold selling on sites comes up on almost every fan site. Even Guildwiki has them!

I don't believe him, and I don't need to state my sources as it is opinion. Not fact.

Funny read. But honestly, true or not, I don't care at all. It's a game >.> you play it to have fun, not debate who's getting more money than you etc.

It sounds too much of a conspiracy to be true. Plus Gaile.
